360 Reviews The Scorpions “Return to Forever”

Scorpions - Return to Forever CoverI tend to view albums as a purely sonic experience. I love the catchy hooks and riffs that make me want to stand up and scream. But whether you think so or not, your response to an album is often influenced by things other than the actual sound of it.  You need to load the new Scorpions’ album “Return to Forever”, put on your headsets, sit back, relax and teleport yourself back to the days of the “Love at First Sting” and “Blackout” album era.

The first four songs “Going Out With A Bang”, “We Built This House”, “Rock My Car” and “House of Cards” made me want to sing along with the album. Songs like “Hard Rockin The Place” and “The Scratch” have some nice guitar work.  I loved the boogie feel of “The Scratch”.

Scorpions ImageThe album was comprised of “Unfinished songs from the early eighties”, says guitarist Matthias Jabs.  I think producers Mikael “Nord” Andersson and Martin Hansen have done a phenomenal job. So, for fans longing for that early eighties Scorpions’ material, your wish has come true.  Starting the album with the rock anthem “Going Out With A Bang” to the beautiful “Dancing In The Moonlight”, you won’t be disappointed.

It wouldn’t be a Scorpions album without plenty of ballads starting with “House of Cards” where you instantly want to turn on those cell phone lights and sway your arms while singing along.  This album is a welcomed addition to any music collection.  If you loved the early Scorpions albums you won’t be disappointed.

Overall Impression:  The Scorpions new studio album stands head to toe with their best from the past few decades.  The album is loaded with memorable songs that will make Scorpions fans and casual listeners happy.
