Blues Traveler

blues-traveler-5392-1The KaaBoo Festival in beautiful Del Mar, California was the setting for a joyous afternoon of great music.  If you were lucky enough to be there on Sunday September 18th you got to witness some of the finest musicians ever to grace the Trestles stage, including the brilliant songs from the Blues Traveler band. John Popper (Singer, Guitarist, Harmonica) was in great form especially after recently undergoing spinal surgery and appeared to be very mobile on stage.  John and the boys started the show with the song “Things are looking up” which set the Tone for what was about to be a great afternoon of live music. As you would expect the music was tight and Johns Harmonica took center stage with some amazing note selections and runs.  The band immediately kicked into the awesome groove of “New York Prophecy” which had the crowd mesmerized and prepared them for 1994’s Mega-hit “Run Around” from the album Four. The crowd instantly started singing and waving their hands overhead to the point that John could have let the crowd sing the song for him.  When the song ended they slowed the very enthusiastic crowd down by breaking into “Blow up the Moon” which has a very likable feel and a chorus that anyone can sing along with, and did.  The audience needed a pick me up and was delivered “Dropping Some NYC” which featured a nice guitar solo and harmonica jam. The show continued with some nice acoustic guitar with the song “100 Years” and some very nice guitar/harmonica work in the 1990 song “But anyway” from the self-titled album Blues Traveler.  The concert started to wind down and after a brief Drum intro the band ended the show with “Hook” which is a very cool song, and the intended humor of the lyrics makes me enjoy it all the more.  If you missed the band at KaaBoo this year, do yourself a favor and look them up, I promise it will put a smile on your face.
