Fulfilling a promise made by Wuv Bernardo, drummer for the three-time GRAMMY Award® nominated rock band P.O.D., to play a concert for the community of Imperial Beach (IB), today P.O.D. and Mayor Serge Dedina are pleased to jointly announce the creation of Lower Left Fest.

The inaugural Lower Left Fest, set for July 15, 2018, hopes to become an annual daylong family-friendly experience. The event will include food and beverage booths, merchandise vendors, a beer garden, and a VIP area, a FREE all day concert on the beach headlined by locally-grown rock band P.O.D. Two stages on the beach, one near the pier and another by the hotel Pier South Resort and the Sea 180 restaurant, will feature performances by P.O.D. and other local bands. The event will also highlight lowrider cars, custom motorcycles, plus skateboarding and surfing lifestyles. The vision is to have Lower Left Fest become a yearly event curated by P.O.D. and their friends in other musical bands can come play music and enjoy IB with the city’s residents and visitors.

“The City of Imperial Beach, a classic Southern California city, welcomes P.O.D as we look forward to celebrating and sharing our beautiful beaches and city with attendees of Lower Left Fest every Summer, commencing next July,” commented Serge Dedina, Mayor of the City of Imperial Beach. “It’s important to Imperial Beach to show visitors to our community, and to remind our current residents, that our city is really quite amazing. We truly hope that everyone who attends Lower Left Fest has the best day of their life while enjoying the best our city has to offer.”

The now legendary proclamation by Bernardo during at an impromptu concert by Switchfoot – who were debuting their “Where the Light Shines Through album” – only stoked the community’s passion to support the local band with deep roots in the city they call “Southtown”. “There isn’t a day that goes by where someone from our community doesn’t ask me when P.O.D. is going to play the concert on the beach,” noted Mayor Dedina, a long-time resident who moved to IB in 1971.  “I’m thrilled that I now have an answer for them.”

“This is an awesome way to celebrate our beautiful culture, and diversity of the people and music in Southtown. We have deep roots in IB with many family and friends living in the community and Lower Left Fest provides us the chance to give back to everyone who has supported us all these years,” announced Wuv Bernardo.

P.O.D. vocalist Sonny Sandoval, added, “I grew up in Imperial Beach, surfing and going to the beach – my son plays baseball at the park. IB has been somewhat overlooked and with Lower Left Fest we can show everyone that this city is a huge landmark in San Diego and deserves to be celebrated. I can’t wait to play music for our community.”

“We have so much history in this city, we filmed our first video and band photo shoot right here on the Imperial Beach pier. Lower Left Fest will allow us to show off all of the many great things IB has to offer – family, a sense of community, diverse culture and amazing beaches,” commented Traa Daniels bassist.

Guitarist Marcos Curiel added, “It’s important to me and my family in Imperial Beach to dispel the misconceptions of the South County. IB is home and has wonderful people, culture, music and history that are worth celebrating.”
