Earlier last month, BackStage3660 had the opportunity to witness Dweezil Zappa’s newest tour celebrating the 50th Anniversary of his father’s classic album “FREAK OUT” . Having seen Dweezil play about ten years ago, I liked his own personal style but this newest tour was special because he would be playing his dad’s album “Freak Out” in its entirety along with all the other classic hit’s that his Father had created. After the show I spoke with Dweezil about all the recent fuss about his dad’s music and he told me that’s why he calls this tour “DWEEZIL PLAYS WHAT EVER THE F#%K HE WANTS.”  And that night, play he did.

We also had a chance to catch up with a good friend of ours who is currently singing on this tour, Ms. Cian Coey. She had joined Dweezil after finishing a brief tour as the vocalist with Meatloaf. She totally fits right in with Frank’s music and the band.

For all of you that are familiar with Frank Zappa’s music you know how technical it is and believe me, it is. This group of Gunslingers touring with Dweezil this year is no exception with all the usual suspects. Kurt Morgan (Bass) Ryan Brown (Drums) Scheila Gonzalez (Multiple Instruments) and Chris Norton. (Keyboards) The band went through the iconic “FREAK OUT” album like it was child’s play. The music is anything like child’s play though. Nobody knows this music better than Dweezil who grew up with it. As he started playing he found himself constantly asking his dad for his input and technical expertise. Dweezil spent many long hours with his dad in the studio learning and crafting his own style all the while learning from the master himself Mr. Frank Zappa.

If you are a fan of Frank Zappa’s music this tour is a must to see. To be able to see Franks music played to this level of perfection was for me awe inspiring.

Defiantly check out Dweezil’s Music as well you will hear the influence from his iconic father as well as Dweezil’s own style which is to say his playing is off the chart.
