Glenn Hughes / The Voice of Rock

glen-hughes-2-of-10Although I’ve seen Glenn many times over the years with other bands like Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Country Communion, Hughes and Thrall and Kings of Chaos, Glenn had never toured in the USA doing his solo work and we couldn’t have been happier to witness this epic show. It was a treat to just be a witness to one of the best shows ever with the incomparable Glenn Hughes. It was the first time Glenn has ever played his solo music in the USA and Backstage360 was privileged to cover this performance in San Diego at the Brick by Brick. Glenn did not disappoint. His band consisted of the great Soren Andersen on Guitar and Vocals, Pontus Engborg on Drums and of course on Bass and Vocals the man himself, Mr. Glenn Hughes.

Most of you are familiar with Glenn’s work with Deep Purple especially the “Burn” album, but his solo music is some of the best work that’s out there. This cat is considered by many aficionados as one of the best singers in history and I agree. Not only is Glenn the voice of my generation but one of the nicest Cats in the business. If you haven’t ever seen Glenn he is a must see artist no matter what band he is performing with. His most recent induction into Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame with Deep Purple proves what I’m saying. On top of all his music, he is also a published author. His book “Deep Purple to Black Country Communion” chronicles his life as a true Rock Star with all its up’s and down’s. It’s a great read. But make no mistake; it’s his uncanny ability to write hit songs that evoke true hysteria among his loyal fans.

When he hit the stage that night he covered hits from every album. He played both his solo projects as well as the Deep Purple hits and didn’t miss a beat. Most people his age are found laying on a beach on some island sipping a drink, but not Glenn. His energy is infectious and his voice is still amazing every time I see him. All you young bands out there should listen to this man do his thing! You might just learn something about singing and performing.
