The Man, the Icon, Mr. John Fogerty the former leader of Credence Clearwater Revival, hit the stage at Stagecoach and I was immediately sent back to the first time that I had met John in 1967 at the Monterey Pop Festival.
Since that time I’ve seen him play with his band a few times but this time felt special. Before he came out on stage they had a video playing with a timeline of his iconic hall of fame career. It definitely brought back so many memories. I remember the first time heard John on the radio with CCR and being drawn in by the feel and groove of this Louisiana born rocker. This hall of fame band produced some of the most iconic songs of that era and the 60’s were, in my opinion, the greatest time in music history, bar none.
Flashing back to that time John started right off the bat with a string of his greatest hits including “BORN ON THE BAYOU”, “PROUD MARY”, “WHO STOPS THE RAIN”, “HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN” “THE OLD MAN DOWN THE ROAD” and many more. This man’s songs transcend time and generations. The crowd was mostly younger people that weren’t even born when CCR hit the music scene but that didn’t stop them from singing along with this Hall of Fame icon’s music.
I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised at how many of these 20 somethings even knew who he was. That being said I digressed back to my high school days and the music of that era. It brought me back to the dances and the old girlfriends that I enjoyed during that time. The fact is that these songs meant so much to me back then and still resonate with me to this day. That’s what true legends do to their fans.
His show was full of moments like this and, it seemed to evoke memories for others as well as I walked around and spoke to people as the show was going on. The fact that this 70 something rocker still loves to perform and maintain his energy level was evident throughout the entire concert with several encores.
Yes the 60’s were alive at Stagecoach on this Saturday evening in the desert of Indio California. If you get a chance to catch John and his amazing band on tour this year you too will be transported back those days when life was simple and great.
