Even though I have seen Lenny a few times, this time was different. What Lenny always brings to his shows is energy and fun. This time he came with an 11 piece band! Horns with three backup singers and of course, the Lenny Swagger.
His music has a FUNK, R/B, SOUL feel to it. Even his arrangement of AMERICAN WOMAN (Which he kills live) has that certain sound built in. I think most of the people that had come from miles around to see AEROSMITH were really engaged in his performance as was I. Even though he was opening for AEROSMITH he was amazing. Lenny’s stage performance this time was electric. When he did his hits FLY AWAY, ARE YOU GOING TO GO MY WAY and PLEASURE AND PAIN his interaction with his band was off the chain.
The three girl backup singers were also amazing as was his horn section. It reminded me of the old show bands of the 60’s that I grew up with. IT AIN’T OVER TILL ITS OVER was his best song of the night. The horns were outstanding as was the rest of the band. Lenny’s interaction with the 3 backup singers dancing together was outstanding. To me it was one of the best performances of the entire KAABOO festival and was certainly the best performance that I’ve ever seen him give.
