Steven Davis – A Peak Into The Making of “The Way You Look Tonight”

Steven Davis - Studio Recording Session-5415It isn’t often you get a chance to go behind the scenes at one of the most iconic recording studios in the world.  Studio ‘A’ at Capital Records has hosted some of the greatest artists of our time and while walking around this classic studio, one can hear the eerie sounds of those who have recorded their music from a simpler time and walked its hallowed halls.  When asked about the studio, Steven simply replied, “It’s sacred ground”.  Standing here today, I feel, wouldn’t it be great if you could have a time machine and go back and just witness what has gone on in that room? Steven, who hails from Omaha, Nebraska, stated “We’re having a ball today. It’s good, we’re gonna have some fun.  We’ve got a big band that’s gonna be assembled out here.  We’re gonna have blaring horns, a big kick-ass 18 piece band..my God”.

Steven Davis - Studio Recording Session-5380Being invited to record the making of Steven Davis’ newest LP called  “The Way You Look Tonight” was not just a treat in itself, but hearing Steven record some of the music that Frank Sinatra did in Studio ‘A’ and use the same microphone that Frank used during those sessions would have been rewarding to any true audiophile.  Steven’s new LP is a tremendous blend of some of the greatest songs from Frank Sinatra, (The Way You Look Tonight, Come Fly With Me, Luck Be A Lady), The Platters, (Only You,) Nat King Cole, (Teach Me Tonight) and Dean Martin. (Ain’t That A Kick In The Head) The big band era is something that almost seems like a lost art as there just aren’t a lot of people doing it any more.  If you want to hear how great a big band truly sounds, we suggest this album be on the top of your music list this year.

Thanks for the time machine Steven…
