Inglorious was formed in 2014 and is fronted by Nathan James (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Uli Jon Roth) on vocals, Andreas Eriksson on lead guitar, Wil Taylor on rhythm guitar, Colin Parkinson on Bass, and drummer Phil Beaver. The album is strong from the beginning to the end. The musicians love of Classic Rock show throughout the album. All the classic influences show in the songs starting with “Until I die” which starts with a very familiar Jon Lord Hammond organ sound and very reminiscent of the song “Space Truckin’” from Deep Purple’s Machine Head. All the songs are strong and Nathan has moments where he reminded me of David Coverdale especially in his lower register. Next was the song “Breakaway” and “High Flying Gypsy” which gave me flash backs of a nastier “Kashmir”. Then it finally hit my ears, the song “Holy Water” which quickly became my favorite song on the album. This song had a very catchy Intro Riff with a slow bluesy groove and Nathan’s vocals were captivating.
The album continued to impress me and everything sounded like it was from the same song writing team which gave it a sense of familiarity. Then the final three songs took me on a blissful listening experience starting with the song “Inglorious” whose vocals took me back to an earlier Uli Jon Roth Scorpions era. Then the track “Unaware” with the beautiful piano intro leading me into a heavy guitar riff driven song with Nathan’s beautiful vocals and finishes me off with “Wake” a beautiful song reminiscent of the Rolling Stones song “Angie”. The constant throughout this entire experience was the feeling that these musicians were comfortable with each other and had the same vision. Nathan’s incredible vocals had such a commanding presence throughout the entire album. I enjoyed the ride. This is one band that I can’t wait to see what’s next. If you love good music, buying this album is a no brainer! One of my favorite new albums and hopefully yours too.
