Artist Interviews at NAMM: Billie Stevens – Yolanda Johnston & Bob Jaffe (Tsunami Cables)

BILLIE STEVENS

For those that don’t know who Billie Stevens is; here is a little information to get you up to date taken from the www.billiestevens.com website: “Billie Stevens is an American singer/songwriter.  He is best known as guitarist and singer in the Southern California bands WANK (Maverick Records) and Handsome Devil (RCA Records), and recently announced his first solo effort with the June 7th release; “American Youxia”.

Billie is also known for his multiple recording credits as producer and/or engineer.  His studio history includes co-producing with artists like Mike Ness (Social Distortion) and Jeremy Popoff (Lit); producers such as Ed Stasium (Ramones), Ralph Sall (Can’t Hardly Wait), and Grammy Award winner Linda Korn (Various Simon & Schuster works); and engineers including Mark Trombino (Blink 182), Bradley Cook (Foo Fighters) and Brian Malouf (Queen, Brian Wilson).  He has also personally engineered/produced projects for artists including Ice T and hundreds others at the facility he owned and operated (Dinky Music Inc) in Corona, CA.

Along with radio and MTV airplay, Billie has put in his time on the road too.  Several tours of the US and Canada, including multiple Vans Warped Tours and an AFE tour of Europe has earned him thousands of fans across the globe.  He is looking forward to seeing many of them and he puts together his regional support tour of “American Youxia” late 2016.”

Billie keeps very busy and is always looking forward and trying to improve his life and the life of people around him.  I met Billie because of his association with the Muse tribute band bMuse.  I saw the band and instantly connected with Billie and did a little research of my own; which eventually led to an interview with the magazine.  He is a very talented artist as well as producer and/or engineer.

YOLANDA JOHNSTON & BOB JAFFE (Tsunami Cables)

You can only be as good as the cable connecting your instrument to your rig! Right? We caught up with Yolanda Johnson to talk about her current projects and a new cool Purple Tsunami XLR Cable that was custom made for her.  Here is a segment from Tsunami’s site (tsunamicables.com):  “The ideal Pro Audio cable is one that gives you the clearest picture of your sound from the source (i.e. “guitar”) to the input (i.e. “amp”) with the least amount of resistance.

At Tsunami Cables this is our driving force. Tsunami Cables are the quintessential choice for the most discriminating audio professional. These cables are designed to ensure the integrity of a signal as it is transmitted from point to point.

Tsunami Cables are designed to eliminate the need for having, what is an industry standard… 2 sets of audio cables. One, for Studio recording and one for the road. Most cables are either high sound quality designed for use in recording OR durable, made to with stand the rigors of the road. Our cables are designed to handle both conditions.

Tsunami Cables, audio cables that deliver pure sound in any situation.  Quad cable for all handheld microphone applications. Flexible and strong, 21 AWG cable fits perfectly in all XLR-type audio connectors. Forty separate strands in each conductor eliminate breakage due to flexing.

Instrument Cable specially designed oxygen free copper 18 AWG cable for connecting Guitar/Bass or Keyboards to amps, mixers, effects pedals and all outboard signal processing gear. Low capacitance and low series resistance provides improved frequency response (flat to 50 kHz). The double Carbon/Braid Copper shield construction eliminates micro phonic handling noise, especially on stage where amps are often set at maximum volume levels.

For strength and durability we use Techflex braided sleeving to cover all our cables. Techflex is braided from 10 mil polyethylene terephthalate monofilament yarns. The material has a wide operating temperature range, is resistant to chemical degradation, UV radiation, and abrasion. Resists gasoline, engine chemicals and cleaning solvents. FAR 25 and FMVSS 302 approval. Available in many different colors to give that “custom” look.

Neutrik, an industry standard for over 30 years, is the leading provider of professional entertainment connector systems. Neutrik applies state-of-the-art production technologies to all their connector systems. Neutrik products provide robust and reliable connectivity.”  According to Yolanda the cable is virtually indestructible.
