Autograph – VH-1’s “100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs”

On VH-1's "100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs," the public voted "Turn Up The Radio" number 93 on the list.

Autograph-13AUTOGRAPH

It’s been a long time coming to see Autograph Live, but it was well worth the wait when Friday night arrived for the privileged group of fans who made seeing Autograph perform, a priority.  After all this time, I think Autograph is undoubtedly better than ever, the band seems to have a sense of maturity and camaraderie on stage that extends to their fans. Steve Lynch, Randy Rand, Simon Daniels and Marc Wieland sounded incredible, Steve’s flowing guitar lines were obscenely good, Simon Daniels vocals were spot-on, and it was all held together by the very talented Randy Rand and Marc Wieland who held the groove like it was second nature.  All were filled with energy and looked like they were having a blast.

Autograph-14The band started their show with “Deep End” from their debut album ‘Sign in Please’, which was one of six songs being played from that album.  Then pumped out “Dance all Night” from the album ‘Loud and Clear’, which was one of five songs from that album.  Over all, they covered four albums including two songs from both the ‘I Lost my Mind in America’ album and the album “That’s the Stuff”.  And yes, finishing with “Turn up the Radio” the song that made me spend countless hours with my guitar trying the nail the solo. I could not count how many guys had their phones glued on Steve’s fingers during that song.

Every song played made you want to sing along and/or dance.  The new lineup has no keyboards which allowed Lynch to add his brilliant guitar flair to the songs. As a fan you won’t be disappointed with the missing keyboards as the new Autograph line-up fills the void flawlessly. Throughout the concert, the fun onstage was infectious. Like a couple of high-school kids, Lynch and Rand played off each other all night; as an audience member you felt like you were part of a close knit family.  It’s crazy for them to be as brilliant as they are after all these years, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to see this incredibly talented group of musicians once again. If you get an opportunity……DON’T MISS THIS!!!
