SD Artists “Boogie Rock” for Charity

Lady Rogo

  • Boogie Magazine’s Holiday Rock Concert For Charity is in the history books, and it was one helluva time!

First of all, it was a very successful benefit, providing supplies to Father Joe’s Villages, food to the San Diego Food Bank, and toys for Toys for Tots, while also raising money to further Boogie’s cause…but, secondly…it just kicked ass!  MAJOR THANKS to Boogie for letting us tag along to interview your guests…

It was a veritable who’s who of the San Diego entertainment scene, with scores of musicians, producers, and others involved with making San Diego’s scene hot.  Even though BackStage360.com is technically a “competitor” to Boogie Magazine, the gloves came off for charity (and because we are all good friends anyway)…Eli Medellin of Boogie Magazine even sat down to chat with me about the event.  We were very excited and honored to come out for this event and interview the artists, but we had NO IDEA how many people would be there!  And I had no idea how much I’d be sweating!  Florentino Buenaventure of

Florentino Buenaventura – EnterTalk Radio

Enter Talk Radio came by to show support, and Gale Force Productions also stopped by as well as lending their support.  I know we missed a few interview opportunities, but we talked to as many people involved with the event as possible.  Many musicians who weren’t even on the bill swung by to show their support; Trailer Park RockstarsErik Zane Idol was there, Lady Rogo stopped by, Gunner Gunner sat on our couch for a talk, and even Rhythm, drummer for Black Market III, gave me a few moments of her time.  By the end of the night, I couldn’t even talk…but I’m getting ahead of myself.

The music kicked off at 1pm, but we didn’t get there until about 4pm, right about the time Kaitlyn Gold was finishing her set…and I’m glad I didn’t miss that!  She’s not only drop-dead beautiful, she has that sexy rasp to her voice that reminds you of a Joan Jett type attitude, and man can she belt those notes.  The guys she had backing her up were incredible in their own right.  We started setting up for interviews shortly after that and I made sure to get that little fireball on the couch!  There was plenty to do all night, from watching the skillful fire-breathing and contortions of J7 Productions to chatting with all the Boogie Musicians that were just hanging around, I wasn’t bored at all while the crew set up the gear.

Anthony Cullins – “The Fallbrook Kid” (From File)

They were just about done setting up when the Fallbrook Kid took the stage.  I had been roped into doing EmCee duties for Eli and had the distinct honor to bring the Kid up on stage.  This 16 year old has the natural talent and skill of some of the best guitarists I’ve ever seen…definitely someone to watch…but he puts the time and effort in to be great at it.  He gets better and better every time I see him.  We sat him down after his jaw-dropping performance to talk his upcoming CD.  Daring Greatly took the stage during one of the many interviews we were trying to squeeze in-between sets, and it definitely distracted me…their harmonies are so amazing, and they’re all so masterful with their instruments.  You might remember that I had talked with Dail, bass player extraordinaire, during their CD release party, but tonight I was able to talk with Liam Croome and Patrick Croome after they were done performing.

Erik Zane Idol (Trailer Park Rockstars’)

I may be out of sync with the order of performers, but I do believe Veronica May and the To Do List came up after Daring Greatly; either way, I know I chatted with her and one of her musicians before they went up and were very impressed with her vocal styling’s and their music.  The rest of the night was a mixture of talking, smiling, and laughing until my cheeks hurt.  There was even a point in the night where one of the event organizers, and performing musician Christopher Leva, took the mike and did a few interviews just to give me a rest.  Eli stepped in to cover a few as well.  All in all…another classic night of great music from the guys at Boogie Magazine, and thanks for taking us along for the ride!
