For Crying Out Loud – Shiraz Lane

Shiraz Lane - For Crying Out Loud_CoverHard rocking Finnish band Shiraz Lane [https://www.facebook.com/ShirazLane] hits America with a throat punch to the 90’s in their first ever album titled “For Crying Out Loud.” This much-anticipated follow up to their EP “Be The Slave or Be The Change” landed this past month and did not disappoint. If you haven’t heard these guys yet, you’re doing yourself a dis-service.

The first track off of their debut full-length album grabs you with a heavy drum and overdriven guitar that screams in your face like a vixen spitting red bull. The best part of the song isn’t even the killer up-tempo rock beat; believe it or not, it’s the lyrics and the message. Hannes Katt sings about waking up from acting like a societal lemming and resisting the corruption in governments that is taking our freedoms. Or something like that, it’s above my head…it shows the incredible talent of these guys, not only can they master their respective instruments, but also they can spread a message!

Speaking of Hannes’ singing, his voice makes me think Getty Lee had a baby with Steve Perry that was blessed by Axl Rose! High-pitched tenor with an attitude, and it shows in the Album’s title track of “For Crying Out Loud.” Much like the lead track, this namesake follows with their anti-Big Brother theme implying that there are too many ‘sheeple’ that can’t see the problem at hand. While I agree with their message, the fact that this group of five musicians from Vataa, Finland (north of Helsinki…that’s the only part of Finland I know of) can rock better than some American musicians I know has me asking what do they put in the water over there?

These guys are awesome…my favorite part about this entire album is that it’s like a trip through the story of hard rock! These guys obviously have influences spanning the decades and styles of hard rock, from Rush to Zeppelin, Whitesnake to Alice In Chains, their rock knows no bounds.
