RavenEye – “Breaking Out” in The States

Recently, we caught up with an amazing new band at HOB in San Diego. They were the direct support band for The Darkness and their U.S. Tour.

Having heard their debut EP “Breaking Out”, which was released in 2015, I was surprised by how much sound this Trio was putting out. Not bad considering the fact that the UK-based band had only been formed in 2014.  When I spoke to front man Oli Brown, I commented on his guitar tone and how much it reminded me of the late great Peter Green. (Fleetwood Mac Guitarist)  Oli laughed and told me he was a huge fan of Peter’s.

During the interview we did with RavenEye, Oli spoke about his influences and his inspirations for his music.  He spoke about their tour last year in direct support for Slash and Miles Kennedy and Deep Purple and what a break that had been for them.  I found these three young men to be spot on with their goals for the future of RavenEye and the new music that they will be recording here in the USA after the Darkness Tour is finished.

From the moment they hit the stage it was evident that this band was polished, tight and very sure of themselves and their music.  As the set went on they just got stronger and the crowd became more and more engaged.  They played all of the songs from the Breakthrough EP but gave me and the crowd a taste of what’s to come when the new album is finished.

RavenEye-6235In the true sense of the old school power trios of the 60″s this band played their butts off with bombastic riffs and a strong bottom end supplied by Kev Hickman on Drums and Aaron Spiers on Bass.

I found Oli’s guitar playing to be outstanding without being obtrusive to their sound. His tone was flawless and his songwriting skills evident from the very beginning.

If you get a chance to see this band live on this tour with the iconic band “The Darkness,” you will have a blast trust me.

RAVENEYE is a true force on the music scene today.
