Dart Music Partners with 3x Grammy Award-Winning Saxophonist, Jeff Coffin and Caleb Chapman’s Crescent Super Band

The Music Metadata Company(TM) tackles jazz recordings' complex metadata.

Jeff Coffin, saxophone player for Dave Matthews Band, has collaborated with long time friend and educator Caleb Chapman and his Crescent Super Band to release “The Inside Of The Outside” available December 4, 2015. The project was funded through Kickstarter and raised over $25,000 to cover recording costs.

Under the direction of founder Caleb Chapman, The Crescent Super Band, comprised of 25 high school aged musicians, has stunned audiences worldwide with their youthful energy and nearly unbelievable performance level. The CSB has performed at major jazz festivals around the world as well as headlining at Carnegie Hall for thousands of fans. As a result, they have frequently been hailed as one of the top big bands in the world.

“If I didn’t know it, I would never have guessed this was a high school band. It’s just unbelievable. The future of music is in good hands.” -Dave Matthews

The project started in March 2015, with the Crescent Super Band being invited to perform in Cuba. Coffin immediately invited himself on the trip and “The Inside of The Outside” project was born. Two of the nine songs (Move Your Rug & The Inside of the Outside) were recorded in Havana, Cuba at the prestigious Abdala Studios. All the the songs are Coffin’s original compositions and include musical guests Randy Brecker, Rashawn Ross, Branford Marsalis, Roy ‘Futureman’ Wooten, Victor Wooten, Trombone Shorty, Robertico Garcia, Pedrito Martinez, Dayron Rodriguez and Juan ‘El Peje’ Carlos Rojas.

During the trip, Coffin joined the Crescent Super Band for a cultural exchange with the Escuela Nacional de Musica (National School of Music) in Havana – which turned out to be a profound highlight of the entire trip. A decision was made even before leaving Cuba that all the proceeds from the sale of this recording project would go back to the Escuela Nacional de Musica to help these astonishing young students.

Dart Music was selected to distribute the project to digital music providers around the world. “This project was an exciting challenge to work on. With the multiple arrangers and extensive array of talented guest artists, it earned it’s complex metadata badge,” said Dart Music Musicologist Jake Handy.
