John 5 and the Creatures

April 5th 2018 will always be remembered as the day John 5 and the Creatures blew the roof off of San Diego’s premier Rock Venue ‘Brick by Brick.’ It was a high energy non-stop show to be remembered.  Opening the show were three SoCal bands RDG, Taz Taylor and Pet Shark. All three bands are familiar faces to the Southern California music scene and were perfect opening acts for the amazing John 5.  John 5 and the Creatures took the stage with their trademarked Halloween décor, painted faces, masks, smoke and video clips that all added to the song’s ambience.  John 5 is more than just a guitar shredder, he is a force to be reckoned with and his guitar skills were developed from years of playing and touring with everything from Country to Metal acts.  His influences and guitar playing are all a mixture of his love for the instrument, especially the Telecaster, and his love for different genres of music, including Country, Rock, Metal and Jazz.  John 5 grabs your attention and never lets go until the end of the show.  He holds you whether he’s playing his Telecaster, Mandolin or Banjo and even brings out a violin bow reminiscent to what Jimmy Page does in the Song Remains the Same Video from Led Zeppelin.

The audience was mesmerized by the stage setup and John’s ability to play flawlessly with so much energy it would put the bunny to shame.  The band was definitely having fun on stage and it was very infectious.  They got the crowd involved, whether it was just getting their hands in the air or singing along.  During the bands performance John 5 broke into Metallica’sEnter Sandman” and the crowd literally sang the entire song which made them feel like they were part of tonight’s special event.  I bought John 5’s entire catalog after the first time I say him, years ago.  If you love well written intelligent music played with a guitarist who is second to none, search for the next show that John 5 and the Creatures are making an appearance and purchase your tickets.  John 5 and the creatures recently put out a new album titled “It’s Alive” which is a live album recorded last year. The new album is just like the live show which is all instrumental music from the creative mind of John 5. Purchase this new album and add it to your music collection.  Keep checking Brick by Bricks web page for upcoming shows.  The venue lets you get up close and personal with your favorite artist and there are bands almost every night of the week.  Support your local music scene and hope to see you at a future show.
