Kattfest 2019

10 Years

It was the absolute perfect Day for the 2019 Kattfest at the Zoo Amphitheater in Oklahoma City. The Sun was shining bright and the temperature for the Day was in the 60’s. The crowd started filling up the place and believe it or not, there were 10,000 people ready to rock. Ready to forget the everyday stress and just enjoy the music and have nothing but pure fun.  Kattfest is hosted annually and it has a packed line-up of big names in the hard rock and metal world. You can say the party is on from two o’clock in the afternoon until late evening hours. The staff working the event also was amazing. The servers at the concession stands and servers carrying the heavy coolers making sure everybody kept on having cold drinks, the medics taking great care of the once that needed medical attention and being right on top of their game and the security team who made sure that we all were safe and could have a worry free Day going into the late evening. Not to forget the whole team it takes to put the show on stage.  Every single person involved that it takes to make this Day happen, I would like to say Thank You from all the fans!!!

When the show finally got started it was time for the Oklahoma City band One Two Ten to take the stage and warm up the crowd for what was to come. The band released their first EP called “ Good in Everybody” in October 2017.  Their style is catchy and it gets you moving before you realize.

Saint Asonia

We moved then on to Blacktop Mojo, a band from Palestine, Texas.  These guys did a stunning cover version of Soundgarden’s “ Rusty Cage”. The fans started to get more relaxed and people started conversations and it didn’t matter anymore if you knew each other or not. The perfect atmosphere was getting created to build  an unforgettable Day. 10 Years took over the stage next. A Band from Knoxville, Tennessee which started in 1999. Their main style is alternative metal, progressive metal and post-grunge. The band started off with “Fix Me”, “Vampires” and “Knives” going on with “Beautiful” and “Russian Roulette”. Then it was time for their 2006 #1 hit on the billboard alternative songs chart “Wasteland” and not to forget “Novacaine” which was their first single of their eights studio album titled “How To Live As Ghost” which was released October 27th of 2017. The electricity was charging and time started flying by. 10 Years was already at the end of their performance and they finished it off with “Shoot It Out” a song of their fifths album Feeding The Wolves.

Moving on to the next band it was time for Saint Asonia to keep up what the previous bands had started. To keep the atmosphere up and to keep it charging until the last second. Saint Asonia is a Canadian-American rock band which was founded in 2015. This band is known as the new band of the former Three Days Grace front-man Adam Gontier and the band also has the former lead guitar player Mike Mushok from Staind. Their new album Flawed Design was just released on October 25th of this Year and we all had the honor to witness their first live Debut of “Blind”, “Beast” and “This August Day” which are three awesome songs of their new album. The audience totally dug it and showed how much they liked their songs by applauding and cheering on top of their lungs. Another hit played that everybody knows and likes was the “Three Days Grace” cover song “I Hate Everything About You”. We had a total powerhouse going when the audience sang along with this tune. Like before with the other bands the time had come to move on to the next performance. It was  “Candlebox’s” turn to show what they got and let me tell you, they showed it. Candlebox is a american rock band from Seattle, Washington and was originally founded 1990. The band had taken a break but then reunited in 2006 and has

Filter

been active since. The songs played tonight were most of their early hits from their 1993 self named  released album  Candlebox. They started out with “Don’t You” followed by “Change”. Other great song like “Blossom”, “Arrow”, “Cover Me” and “You” were also part of their set list. We had a 10,000 people Choir going when the “Guns n’ Roses” cover song “Sweet Child O’Mine” was played and we had the same effect with  Duran Duran’s song “Hungry Like A Wolf”. The guys finished up with one of their big hits “Far Behind” and like you can imagine everybody sang along with this song as well. Even though the band was leaving all of us far behind so they could go on to their next adventure on tour, we were not behind on schedule and therefor “Filter” took on the stage next. “Filter” is an American rock band that was formed in 1993 and they are from Cleveland Ohio. The lead singer Richard Patrick used to be the touring guitarist for “Nine Inch Nails” so he could start his own band and as we can see he made a good choice being very successful with the debut album “Short Bus” released in 1995 and their second studio album “Title Of Record” going platinum. The band performed “Where Do We Go From Here”, a song that wasn’t performed life since 2009. That is a long time if you really think about it. Other song performed off the “Title Of Record” album were “Welcome To The Fold”, “Take A Picture” and “The Best Thing”. Then the set list got a little changed up by playing the cover song “Happy Together” by “The Turtles”. One of the biggest hits was left for a banging end and it was no less then “Hey Man Nice Shot”.

Candlebox

It was finally time for “Bad Wolves” and the crowd was going nuts as the smoke filled the stage and the band’s first notes hit our ears. Bad Wolves was the first rock band to reach platinum for their 2018 release of The Cranberries song “Zombie”.  Bad Wolves played many of their songs from their Disobey album and songs from their October 2019 release N.A.T.I.O.N. Singer Tommy Vext pumped up the crowd and had the entire floor bouncing to the music. It was an amazing watching someone have that much control over their environment. Vext was jumping and spinning and covered the entire massive stage, moving in all directions, not staying still very long, all the while drawing your attention to him. The band’s new music is a considerable leap in the right direction, an effort to distance them from the mainstream rock cliché while utilizing dynamics and impressive heaviness in a way that makes the songs a pleasing listening experience for both modern rockers and metal-heads. The new songs were hard, shameless, and showed that Bad Wolves were showing some serious Huevos and were packing a serious punch.  Bad Wolves ended with having the crowd light up their phones and holding them high in the air while they started playing “Zombie.”  What a show!!

Marilyn Manson was the final headliner but we were not approved to shoot Manson.  Look up Katt Fest and try to come and bring friends next year. You won’t regret it.
