Kay Vintage Reissue

Who doesn’t love cool guitars? We all do and when I visited the Kay Guitar booth I was in immediately in love with what I saw.  Kay guitars are just plain cool!  Kay Vintage Reissue guitars are masterpieces of art as well as finely crafted musical instruments with a unique sound and feel you will not find with any other guitar.  Kay Guitars have been played by some of the world’s most recognizable musicians.  The company’s origins date back to the 1890’s, starting with the Groeschel Mandolin Company of Chicago, Illinois. In 1923, Henry Kay Kuhrmeyer joined the company and worked his way to the top.  By 1928, Kuhrmeyer had bought the company and that same year the company started producing electric guitars and amps.

Kay was indeed one of the earliest American manufacturers of electric guitars. Things changed over the years and after some tough times and assets being auctioned off in 1969. Syl Weindling and Barry Hornstein (the main importer of Teisco Del Rey products) purchased the Kay brand name. In 1980 the Kay Guitar Company was purchased by Tony Blair and is currently active selling Kay brand and Santa Rosa brand guitars and of course the Kay Vintage Reissue line of professional guitars and basses.

The guitars have a very polished look and sound great. The Vintage Kay Reissue project came to life when Roger Fritz came into the picture.  Roger Fritz is a profession luthier who makes guitars and basses for musicians like George Harrison and Randy Jackson.  There is no way I can do justice to how great these guitars are.  Check them out at their website www.kayvintagereissue.com and find one to play. Check out the Barney Kessel Gold “K” Signature Series K6700V Artist, K1700V PRO and K8700V Jazz Special Guitars.  You won’t be disappointed!
