Lynch Mob – Mr Scary

What a fun filled evening it was at the Legends Event Park in Chickasha Oklahoma. We all knew that the evening and the show was going to be great but nobody had any idea how special this evening was going to be.

When I arrived I noticed that it was a very nice relaxed atmosphere. People were just hanging out having drinks, talking and enjoying themselves. The set up was arranged nicely into areas where you had some tables, a bar section, a food section and an area in front of the stage where you could just stand or bring your fold up chairs and watch the show. Parking was very convenient and very close to the event area which I liked a lot since a lot of times at other events you have to walk forever from the parking lot to the actual event area.

The show started with two opening acts. The first band to play was Dollar 98 (a local band), and they played more of upbeat Country rock. I am not a big country fan but I really enjoyed what this band played. The musicianship and all the vocals where spot on as they rocked the crowd.

The second opening band was called Trifecta. The band performed a variety of different rock songs that started with a Van Halen medley and went on to perform everything from Deep Purples song Perfect Stranger to Eric Johnson. They did a nice job of transitioning the crowd from the opening country Rock to what the Lynch Mob onslaught was about to unleash.

The real special evening began when Lynch Mob made their appearance on stage. George Lynch (Guitarist), Sean McNabb (Bassist) and Scot Coogan (Drummer) entered the stage. All three started to play the opening notes to George’s infamous Mr. Scary. George and the band stretched the song into an extended jam and the crowd started wondering, “Where was the singer, Robert Mason?” Then George made the announcement that sadly due to a private family matter, Robert was not able to be at the event. The band didn’t want to cancel the show, so they decided to just wing it without the lead singer and invited anyone who could sing to join them on stage and see what songs from the set list they knew. To me this shows a lot of character and I have even more respect for this band by doing what they did. Think about how easy it would have been to just cancel the event, but no, they bit the bullet and made the absolute best out of it and I can tell you the evening turned out unforgettable.

After giving a short explanation to the audience why the lead singer wasn’t be able to be there, the show started out by bringing the lead singer from Dollar 98 back on stage. There really was no set list and no plan on what to do and what to play. George Lynch asked if anyone knew the words to any of the songs on the set list and this was the beginning of a once in a lifetime event.

They started out playing the Dokken song “The Hunter” which makes sense because most of the audience was familiar with George’s earlier songs from that band. Aaron Warren the lead singer from Dollar 98 rocked this song even though he had to read some of the lyrics on his cell phone which became a very common scenario tonight. No matter what needed to be done to keep the show going, it was done and this is what made this evening so special. The next song was Dokken’s hit classic “Alone again”. Everybody on stage put on such an incredible performance that you couldn’t really tell that the band was just improvising. If you didn’t know the band and you would have seen the performance for your first time, you would have never known that this was not rehearsed.

Next the drummer Scot Coogan sang “When Heaven Comes Down” doing a great job filling in for Robert Mason. After this the lead singer from Trifecta entered the stage to keep the show going with “Just Got Lucky” followed by “Breaking the Chains”. George Lynch announced that as a band they have never played the song “Breaking the Chains” and they did a phenomenal job. You couldn’t tell that this was the very first time playing this song as a band.

After this somebody else came on stage singing the Lynch Mob song “She’s So Evil But She’s Mine” and this person also did a great job performing. Now it was Sean’s turn to take over the vocal duties performing Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” which always makes a nice jam and gets the crowd going.

Well we reached the end of the show and as a final encore George Lynch brought all the performing singers that helped out on to the stage to perform Lynch Mob’s “Wicked Sensation”. Everybody did such a great job and thanks to all the singers helping out and the band for not canceling the event, we all had an unforgettable, fun filled and very special evening and a very special thank you to Fred McNatt for making this show happen and bringing some great music to the Oklahoma area.

A special Thank you to all the performers that winged it and making this a night to remember!!!
