Seventrain’s 2nd Album – “Back On Track”

Seventrain’s 2nd Album  “Back On Track” is finally out and it is long over-due. The band has had some line-up changes since their first record and has moved toward Metal and gone away from Hardrock all-together. I think the change has done them some good. This record just plain out rocks….Two horns way up! There isn’t a weak track on this record, in fact it goes to show “good things come to those who wait.” The guitars will literally light your ass on fire if you don’t watch out! Eric Horton and Jef Poremba destroy everything in their sight! The riffs, the chord changes, the tone for days are glorious! Joel Maitoza slays it on the skins man, his sense of feel and time and bombastic playing drive the songs towards Metal Heaven. Dino Adino is a fantastic bassplayer and lays down a wicked groove to every song and is the rhythmic pulse to Joel’s playing.  Eric Kooze on vocals is aggressive, gritty, and growling, the dude has a lot of angst in his singing and I love it! This band is not messing around, “go big or go home.”  So, let me dive in here and tell you about some of the tracks as you really get your monies worth on this album!

Steve ‘Dino” Andino- Bass

The opening track “Contagious” immediately got my attention, the guitars tone is ballsy and in your face; the riffage is just dare I say, “magically delicious.”  I love Eric’s singing on this song, it gritty, pissed-off, with attitude out the ass! Batter Up! The next song “Love and Hatred” starts in classic metal carnage with a twist of great hook mellow but, it’s Love and Hate that’s the way it’s got to be Baby. “Magnetic” is showing a mellow side of metal but, not in a cheesy way at all. It builds and soars with nice guitar harmonies and vocal harmonies that the Rock God’s would favor. This song is like a good steak, savory and meaty; lots of goodness in this morsel of metal. “Now You Know” this tune opens with a nice funky groove till it hits a big chorus. The verses will make you want to head bang! “Running Scared” is a fast moving freight train, climb aboard if you dare. I want to blow the Viking Horn on this one! Drowning Me, Liar, Break Me Out….. all the songs on this record just kick serious ass!

Look! If you love metal… You have to buy this record! The songs, arrangement, musicianship, are totally amazing! I was blown away! I’ve seen a lot of bands and these guys get it! I really hope they release this on vinyl. And if you are in San Diego or Orange County go see Seventrain they will be playing with Lynch Mob June 29th at The Canyon Club Montclair and House of Blues San Diego July 6th.
