Avatar – Ready For The Ride

The Inspector Cluzo

After a short Day of work I was ready for tonight’s show with Avatar at the Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City.  We had the opening bands The Inspector Cluzo and 68 with the interesting fact, both bands consisting only of two band members; a drummer and a vocalist/guitar player. I had reviewed The Inspector Cluzo as well as Avatar last Year, so therefore I knew tonight’s show was going to be an Epic show.

The Inspector Cluzo is from Gascony France and was invited to the USA through the band Clutch to perform as their opening band on tour. What a great choice that was! The Inspector Cluzo has a Jazzy/rock style, which is perfect for singer  Malcom Lacrouts vocals. I admire how easy he changed from a rougher rock voice to smooth stunning soft and high vocals. You start feeling a hunger to hear more of their songs after listening to only a couple of them. Malcom Lacrouts and Phi Jourdain which are the two members of the duo have released their 10th anniversary LP “ We The People Of The Soil” and one of the interesting facts is that they did everything themselves with no computers or  track recording on tape and everything was analog processed. Also these guys are not just talented in the musical aspect but they are very funny, Performing songs off their LP “We The People Of The Soil” Jourdain climbed on his drum set, just so he could dance for the audience in a very funny erotic manner, while Malcom kept on singing. You can imagine this part was a total hit with the audience and especially the women who were in attendance tonight.  At the end of the show Malcom threw one piece of the drum set after the other off stage while Jourdain kept on drumming with less and less drums until there was nothing left and the show literally was over.

Go ahead and check out these guys and given them a try.

The band 68” was the second band on stage tonight and were just as interesting as “The Inspector Cluzo”. Like I mentioned before this band was also a duo. “68” is from Atlanta Georgia and their focus is set on the punk rock area. Josh Scogin who does the vocals and plays guitar together with Nico Yamada on the drums had a crazy wild energy going on stage. It was a lot fun to watch them perform and they got the right kind of atmosphere set for “Avatar.”

Before “Avatar” even had a chance to make their appearance the crowd was already shouting out their name. Everybody was anxiously waiting, because they knew what the band had in store for them and that it was going to be another unforgettable, amazing, off the chart show.  “Avatar” is from Gothenburg Sweden and was formed 2001. So far, “Avatar” has won the best new talent award in 2016 and the Breakthrough Band award in 2017. The band members are Jonas “Kungen” Jarlsby (Guitar), John Alfredsson (Drums), Johannes Eckerström (Lead vocals), Henrik Sandelin (Bass, backing vocals), and Tim Öhrström (Guitar, backing vocals). All the band members harmonized excellent together while performing on stage. It looked amazing and had (for the ladies) a certain amount of sex appeal when all the guys head banged and swung their long hair on stage. So much talent that I could have burst from joy. Johannes Eckerström’s voice left me in total awe again. He can growl, sing rough, sing soft vocals, high vocals, you name it and he can do it. But we didn’t just have amazing vocals. We also got to listen to some amazing guitar playing which instantly got everybody’s full attention. It was a freak show and it was a perfect freak show.

“Avatar” made the announcement that they will not be touring for a while due to them working on a new album. If it is going to be as good as the Avatar Country album, then we are going to be in for a real treat.

If you ever get the chance to see the band, I can just encourage you to do so. This was my second time and I will go and see them again and again.

Like “Avatar” says: ”They look like a freak show, they sound like a freak show and they are a freak show”. What a perfect line to end the evening and what better song could they have chosen then the one they did “Smells Like A Freak Show”.
