Greg Marra Pet Shark & RDG – Rock Chasers

Greg Marra

I recently reviewed the Pet Shark album “Carnivore Cruises”, which you can find here on Backstage360, which made this a very special night for me to see them perform Live.  Opening for Pet Shark were RDG (Raymond DiGiorgio Group) and Greg Marra from Plenty Heavy.  One special thing about NAMM week are the evening shows and the amount of talented musicians who perform.  Tonight was no exception, RDG started the show with some beautiful guitar work and played a full set of their rock/funk/groove material.  RDG features Raymond DiGiorgio on guitar and was a Los Angeles Music Awards “Guitarist of the Year” nominee.  RDG’s release “The Vault” was a Los Angeles Music Awards winner for

Keith Moreland (Pet Shark)

“Instrumental Album of the Year” and was nominated at the San Diego Music Awards for “Best Rock Album”.  RDG has been a mainstay in the Southern California music scene for over a decade and tonight I had to privilege to see them Live at Chasers Lounge.  RDG was the perfect band to open the show tonight.

After a short wait, Greg Marra took the stage and after a few sound issues finally belted out some very infectious Rhythms.  This was my first time seeing Greg play and it was a fun experience.  Greg’s playing was the type of playing that pulled you into the music.  Nice Heavy chunky riffs with melody and some cool time signature changes thrown into the mix.  His vocals reminded me of Kings X’s Doug Pinnick. Overall they made me want to see them again.  Next up was Pet Shark and as always they did a brilliant job and it was very nice to see them perform their new songs.  Pet Shark is primarily an instrumental progressive rock band and has been a San Diego favorite for a few years.  The show was fun and I had a great time sharing the show with friends and other musicians.  If you ever get a chance to see any of these bands in your area and you love progressive music, do yourself a favor and call your friends and go and have a great evening with some great music.
